Veterans Day has great significance for us here at PatrioticMe. We have countless family, friends, and even staff who are or were proud American veterans. We appreciate the opportunity to share some of their stories with you today, on the cusp of Veterans Day.
LeeAnn is our owner, and her great uncle Tate Nabors was like a grandfather to her. When World War II began, he volunteered his services as a medic, fighting in Burma (now called Myanmar). Thankfully, he returned to the family when the war was over and came home to help run the family grocery store in Mt. Pleasant, NC. Tate had two brothers-in-law, Thomas Barringer, Jr. and Cecil Barringer, who also fought bravely and returned home safely.
We refer to the generation in their prime during World War II as the Greatest Generation or the G.I. Generation. Fewer than 250,000 of the over 16 million Americans who served in WWII are alive today. We want to keep them in our memories and close to our hearts.
Art is the lead man on our marketing team and is a proud Navy veteran. He enlisted as a teenager and traveled the world as a plank owner on the U.S.S. Carl Vinson. His wife Michelle, also on our staff, is grateful every day that he returned safely from working onboard the deck of an aircraft carrier, which is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.
Did you know that you can nominate your favorite veteran as the Veteran of the Day with the Veterans Administration? From the website, "#VeteranOfTheDay is daily blog post and VA's way of honoring those who have taken off the uniform after serving in the U.S. armed forces." To learn more about submitting your family member or friend as the #VeteranOfTheDay, you can visit the VA site here.
As always, please feel free to share your stories with us here at info@patrioticme.com. We would love to share the photos and highlights of your favorite veteran with our Patriotic Brigade!
